Who this covers
I'm Chris DeWeese, and I make I Like Space, an iPhone and iPad app for children about the Solar System, as an independent developer (Modern Programming). This policy covers the app. Questions go to support@chrislaunches.com.
Questions and answers
- Children can ask the planets, moons and spacecraft their own questions by typing or by holding the microphone button. The microphone listens only while the button is held. iOS turns the speech into text on the device, and the recording isn't kept.
- Apple Intelligence writes each answer on the device. The question and the answer aren't sent anywhere, and the app doesn't keep a history of them.
- The voices that read the answers aloud are made by a speech model built into the app, on the device. The first time someone speaks, iOS may download Apple's speech recognition model for your language, as it does for dictation.
- A grown-up can turn off the microphone, or turn off free questions so children choose from written ones, on the app's page for grown-ups.
What stays on the device
- The astronaut your child makes: the name they type, the suit color and the sticker.
- The worlds they've visited, what they've found, the photos in their book, the rocks they took home, and where they planted a flag.
- The settings on the page for grown-ups.
None of this is sent to me or anyone else. Like the data of any app, it's part of your device's backup if you use one.
What I don't do
- No accounts or sign-in.
- No ads.
- No tracking, and no analytics of any kind in the app.
- No purchases inside the app.
- The app doesn't connect to my servers or anyone else's.
Children
I Like Space is made for children. It doesn't collect personal information from anyone, children included. The only link out of the app, to this website's help page, is on the page for grown-ups, behind a question a young child can't answer yet.
Deleting your data
On the page for grown-ups, tap Start the Space Book over to remove the book's photos and start finding things again. Deleting the app removes everything it kept, the astronaut too. There's nothing to delete anywhere else.
