Answers to common questions, and how to reach me.

How does a lesson work?

On the home screen, choose Paint or Pencil, tap the button at the bottom and pick a photo. About half a minute later you have a lesson that takes you from a blank canvas to the finished picture the way a painting teacher would: sketch the big shapes, block in the base colors, find the shapes, paint the shadows, add the highlights, blend the edges, then the main details and the small ones. Pencil lessons follow the same order in grays.

Each step shows what your canvas should look like after it, how to do it, the colors to mix and the mistake to watch out for. Tap the button at the bottom to go to the next step. Drag across the picture to compare it with the step before, and pinch to look closer.

What do I need?

The first step, Get ready, lists the canvas or paper size to use, every paint the lesson needs and the rest: a few brushes, a palette or a paper plate, water and paper towels. The paints are a basic acrylic set, and each step says how much of which ones to mix for each color.

How do I get the sketch onto my canvas?

On the sketch step, turn on Grid and copy the drawing one square at a time, or tap the camera button on the picture: prop your iPhone above the canvas, line the frame up with the canvas's edges and draw along the lines you see on the screen.

How do I check my progress?

Tap the camera button at the bottom of any step and photograph your canvas. The app straightens the photo, compares it with the step and says what to fix, like a spot that needs darker paint. When you finish, photograph your painting to see it beside the photo you started from and share both.

Why does my lesson say it was made on my iPhone alone?

The pictures for a lesson are drawn on Paint Studio's server. If you chose to keep the photo on your iPhone, or your iPhone was offline, the app makes the sketch and the steps from the photo itself, and they're rougher. Tap Make the full lesson on the picture to send the photo and get the drawn sketch and the finished painting.

Why are there no teacher's notes in my lesson?

The notes about your photo are written by Apple Intelligence on your iPhone, so they need an iPhone that supports it, with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings. Without it, every step still has its instructions, colors and tips.

What's free, and what does Pro add?

Your first lesson is free on each iPhone, along with the sample lesson. Pro makes a lesson from any photo you like, in paint or pencil, with a weekly fair-use limit that normal painting doesn't come close to. Pro comes yearly, with a one-week free trial, or monthly, and the app shows the price in your currency.

To cancel, open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least a day before the trial or the period ends to avoid being charged for the next one.

I bought Pro on another iPhone. How do I get it here?

Tap Get Pro on the home screen, then Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with.

How do I rename or delete a lesson?

Press and hold the lesson on the home screen, then choose Rename or Delete. Deleting removes its steps and your canvas photos from your iPhone.

What happens to my photos?

Only the photo you turn into a lesson is sent, and only after you agree; it isn't kept. Photos of your canvas stay on your iPhone. The privacy policy has the details.
