How does my child use it?
The app opens on the Solar System, with the planets where they are in the sky today. Tap a planet, a moon or a spacecraft to fly to it. It wakes up and talks, and your child can ask it questions. Each world has something to find, and its photo goes into your child's book.
Your child's astronaut, made the first time the app opens, always shows what to try next. On the worlds you can stand on, tap the ground to walk and press the jump button to jump with that world's real gravity.
How do I open the page for grown-ups?
Tap the small key button and answer the question. That page has the settings, the help link and the credits.
Why can't my child ask their own questions?
Free questions are answered by Apple Intelligence on the device, so they need an iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings and the device set to English. Without it, every world still talks, and children choose from written questions.
If the device supports it, check that Ask anything is on, on the page for grown-ups.
The microphone doesn't hear my child.
Hold the microphone button down while speaking, and let go to send the question. Check that Microphone is on, on the page for grown-ups, and that I Like Space is allowed to use the microphone and speech recognition in the Settings app, under I Like Space.
Can the voices be slower, or turned off?
On the page for grown-ups, Speaking speed has Slower, Normal and Faster. Turn off Read everything aloud to have the words shown without the voice. Music and Sound effects have their own switches.
Are the planets really where they are today?
Yes. Their positions come from NASA JPL's orbits for today's date. Hold the time button to watch them move, and they return to today afterwards.
How do we start over?
On the page for grown-ups, tap Start the Space Book over. It removes the book's photos and what's been found, so your child can find everything again.
Does progress move to a new iPhone or iPad?
Everything is kept on the device, with no account. It comes along when you set up a new device from a backup of the old one.
What happens to what my child says?
Nothing leaves the device. Spoken questions are turned into text on the device and aren't saved, and the answers are written on the device. The privacy policy has the details.
